Tahsinul Khat and Advanced Arabic Calligraphy Workshop

The Islamic Dakwah Center recently held a certificate presentation for its workshop on Tahsinul Khat and Islamic Calligraphy at an advanced level. Three facilitators of Arabic Calligraphy course invited to train participants of 44 people comprising religious teachers, government officials and interested individuals. All course participants had previously completed similar workshops at a basic and intermediary level.

The overall objective of the workshop is to preserve the continuation of writing Jawi as well as Arabic which is considered as part of the Islamic tradition and heritage in Brunei Darussalam, In addition, to promote and broaden the skill and technique applied by professional Arabic calligraphers. Additionally, it was hoped that the workshop would be utilized as a platform for determining talented Arabic and Jawi calligrapher.

Three facilitators of the course invited to train participants over a two-week period were Jasim Mi'raj, Farid Abd Rahim Al-Ali of Kuwait and Abd Baki bin Abu Bakar Malaysia. Present as guest of honour at the event was Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Jali bin Abdul Latif from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, who presented certificates and prizes to course participants. Awang Haji Mohd Maskub bin Hj Mohd Hussin receive the Best Award for Kufi and Tuluth calligraphy.

Selain dari meminati khat digital aku juga minat melukis secara digital menggunakan drawing program seperti Adobe Illustration dan Corel Draw..membuat lukisan 'icon' untuk buku-buku persekolahan ugama dan kadang-kadang membuat illustrasi apa yang terimaginasi dibenak fikiranku..the sky is the limit, kerana bila kita berkarya dengan medium 'digital', kreativiti kita akan tercabar dengan pelbagai 'digital drawing tools' yang kita miliki..this is a hobby that I totally relax with and it is a lot of fun doing it. Hidup ini terlalu indah jika diindah-indah, sebaliknya membosankan jika tak di ambil endah!

National 33th Jawi Writing Competition

A consolation prized and certificate presentation ceremony for participants of the National-Level 33th Jawi Writing Competation will be held on 21th October 2010. The Jawi writing competition will take place at Pusat Dakwah Islamiah Kg. Pulaie at 1.30 p.m. The event will be competed in seven categories, namely, Category A for Preschool, Category B for primary 1, Category C for primary 2 and Category D for primary 3 and Preparatory I. Meanwhile, Category E through H consists of student from Primary 4 through Primary 6. The final one, Category H is opened to officials and teachers from religious school. The best seven participants from each category will qualify for the finals and out of the seven, the top three are required to write on the spot to determine who will be awarded first, second and third place whereas the remaining four finalists will receive consolation prize. The National Jawi Writing Competition is part of annual activities organized by the Department of Islamic Studies.

Allah has mentioned in the Quran Al-Karim about how he grants wisdom and gives knowledge. In Surah Al-Baqarah verse: 269, Allah the All Mighty says:

"He grants wisdom to whom He pleases, and he to whom wisdom is granted indeed receives a benefit overflowing". And, in one of those verses in Surah Toa-ha: 114, Allah has enjoined all of us including the Prophet Muhammad SAW to ask for knowledge from him.

Ready to Celebrate Prophet Muhammad's Birthday Celebration

Muslims all over the country will be celebrating Maulud Nabi on February 26 (Saturday) this year with a mass gathering and procession to mark the Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birth to be held in all four districts. Traditionally, Prophet Muhammad's birthday in the Belait District will take place at the Padang Bandaran, Kuala Belait.

Dikir recital ceremony in conjunction with the upcoming Maulud Nabi celebrations. The zikir recital was read after the Isya Prayer.

In conjunction with the upcoming Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) birthday celebrations, government ministries and departments all over the country will be holding Dikir recitals to mark the upcoming celebrations. The Zikir recital will continue every night until February 25, the night before Prophet's birthday celebrations.

Kembayau Oh Kembayau Part 2

In my previous post I already talked about 'Kembayau'. Today's post still pertaining to Kembayau, but this time I talk briefly on the seed of Kembayau. The first image above is the seed of Kembayau.

The second image is the seed containing the whitish compressed cotyledon that can be eaten. It has a fine flavour crunchy with 'lemak' (fatty taste). I cracked it open using 'parang' (knife). Since the seed has a hard shell, a nutcracker doesn't work on this seed. After cracking it you will find a crunchy greenish nut. Use toothpick to take the nut out of the shell :)

To what extent are you familiar with the above fruit? I bet that local people will easily recognize the above fruit. The fruit, locally known as 'Kembayau" (Pronunciation Cam-Ba-Yaw). Kembayau is a fruit only found in Borneo especially Brunei Darussalam which is widely diversify and Kembayau has special affinity to Bruneian. Good quality fruit have oily yellowish look when the outer skin is removed. Like durian that can reap profit, Kembayau has made it way to every 'pasar tamu' or open air stall in Brunei.

The way to consume the fruit is first rinse and then soak it in slightly warm water until it soften. Season with salt or sugar. What does this dark purple fruit taste like? The yellowish flesh taste creamy and according to one blogger he said that after tasting Kembayau for a couple of times it has a fine flavour with a sort of potatoish flavour. If you have the opportunity to visit Brunei, try just one and you will know why the demand for this fruit is so great..:)

Window Vista yang sudah sedia dipasang disetiap PC yang baru dibeli tu,.. membuatkan kita berfikir yang Vista itu dibekalkan secara PERCUMA, pasal.. it comes pre-installed with your new PC. Biasanya, kita sebagai pembeli tak nampak langsung harga yang DITAMBAH untuk harga OS pada PC yang baru tu..Ahaaaa kena ingat tuuu. Itulah yang menyebabkan Linux yang memang FREE 100% itu semacam tak boleh lawan 'KEFREEIAN' Window sebabnya Window dah dipasang pada setiap komputer seakan-akan nampak percuma. Aku di samping pakai Window OS, aku pakai jugak MAC G5,..yang MAC ni plak, masalahnya bukan apa..diorang punya OS tu terlalu 'terikat' sangat dengan hardware ..itu pasal harga MAC ni agak mahal sikit berbanding harga PC.

Mereka boleh berkomunikasi tentang apa sahaja yang terlintas di fikiran, pada bila-bila masa dan dimana pun jua mereka berada. Memang fitrah manusia suka berceloteh tentang sesuatu, sama ada dalam bentuk penulisan, percakapan, lukisan, imej, isyarat tangan atau pun menggunakan cara paling terkini iaitu diterjemah dalam bentuk gelombang eletronik. Justeru tabii kita sebagai manusia kita perlu untuk menceceh, membebel, berborak, bercakap, omong-omong dan bersembang sesama manusia lainnya. Dan apabila kita tidak berceloteh, lazimnya kita akan berperanan pula menjadi pendengar setia. Tidak pernah sebelum ini kita berpeluang untuk dapat berkomunikasi sebegitu 'powerful' seperti di zaman digital ini.

Virus komputer yang ada pada hari ini adalah virus maut yang boleh disamakan seperti virus H1NI1, virus-virus ini boleh merebak tanpa sebarang tanda dan cukup merisaukan dan boleh mengakibatkan fatal kepada komputer dan mengakibatkan untung malang kepada pemilik komputer itu sendiri. Untunglah di sana ada jenis manusia baik lagi waras yang bekerja keras sama seperti pengodam komputer untuk menemukan obat penyembuh virus.

Okey, cukup disini pertemuan kita, bertemu lagi dilain waktu.

Simply put, Internet is communication and it gives everyone on the planet earth the power to communicate with anyone else provided that they are on the internet too. So that they can stay in touch with anyone else about anything they want, at any time and any place. The most fundamental human attribute is communication. We are always conversing about something, counting written, spoken, drawn, painted, hand-signaled or brand new, coded in electronic waves. Quite the reverse, when we're not talking, we want to be listening. Never before have we had the chance for open communications that we undergo in this new era of digital communication.

Lot of advantages of the Internet that we can put to good use than we can imagine. There is profit to be made, comradeship to be created, product to acquire and places to surf through. quite literally, there is something for everyone.

But be forewarned of those bad guys on the Internet or in another words there is a risk as well, unless you do something to keep your computer from catching viruses in the first place.

Load up your weapons. Install anti virus software, a firewall, watch out for scams, and protect your children and you should be out of danger.

Today's spyware, adware, trojans and all the other kind of malware are all deadly enemies that can be likened to H1N1 influenza virus. They often diffuse without any apparent contact and can be a annoyance or even fatal to your computer. Mercifully, there are good guys toiling just as hard as the bad guys to invent remedy for viruses.

Developing digital pictures and designs at home is costly. Even if you have all the right tools such as a photo quality printer, professional printing paper and ink and the proper software (Adobe photoshop), there is no guarantee that developing digital designs will get you the result you are after. That's why I would prefer to send my digital graphic creation to photo service. First, I created the necessary Jawi calligraphic artworks using a variety of digital tools and techniques, when the artworks were all done I sent them to photo service for developing and printing.

Permulaan tahun baru adalah saat yang ideal untuk memulakan sesuatu yang baru. Setiap menjelangnya tahun baru pada 1 Januari masing-masing individu merancang strategi dimana mereka akan merobah kerenah dan perangai negatif. Dalam perkataan lain, ramai orang mengambil kesempatan untuk menjadikan tahun baru sebagai penyebab untuk membina azam baru. Kunci utama untuk merealisasikan resolusi tahun baru ialah untuk meningkatkan kualiti diri untuk menjadi diri yang lebih baik daripada tahun-tahun sebelumnya.

5 Resolusi Tahun Baru 2010 yang berfaedah:

1. Mencitai Al-Quran dengan membaca dan mengamalkan ajarannya. Bacalah Al-Quran walau pun satu ayat sehari, ini adalah lebih baik daripada langsung tidak membaca Al-Quran

2. Sentiasa mengingati Allah dengan perkataan, perbuatan dan pemikiran

3. Sentiasa menambah ilmu pengetahuan untuk meningkatkan kualiti diri dan berkhidmat kepada masyarakat

4. Eratkan hubungan silaturrahim dan amalkan sikap bantu membantu dalam masyarakat

5. Jangan mengumpat sesama rakan taulan

6. Berusaha meningkatkan kualiti keimanan

7. Jangan membuang masa menonton cerita TV dan permainan video

The key point of New Year's Resolutions is to change yourself for the better.

Five Worthy New Year Resolutions:

1. Love for the Quran, nuture our heart by reciting the Quran every day. It is best if we read at least an ayah a day because one is better than none.

2. Engage in Allah remembrance (Zikir).

3. Gain knowledge for personal improvement and service to public

4. Strengthen brotherhood and work with others

5. Don't talk behind other people's back

6. Cure weak lazy iman (faith)

We often hear the popular saying or quote about time, 'time is gold'. In reality time is more than gold or any priceless things in this world. Islam guide mankind not only to the significance of time but also how people praise and invest the time. Allah the Almighty make this clear in the Qur'an when He says:

By (the Token of) Time (through the ages), Verily Man is in loss, Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy. Qur'an (103:1-3)

In line with the above Qur'an direction we have to save time by spending it wisely, which really means investing it properly. Invest your time in bettering yourself mentally, physically and spiritually. As a muslim, we must be prompt in doing good deeds which will strengthen our iman or faith and following this enable us to gain Allah pleasure and mercy.

I often hear people constantly complaining, "I havent' just got the time." The truth is, you have enough time, if you know how to invest it. Goethe once said, "We always have time enough, if we will but use right." We are all definitely born equal. You don't have more time than I have, and nobody has less. In fact, no one can inherit time or keep it in a bank to gather interest. Wherever you go, an hour contains sixty minutes no matter who is spending it and even knowing the 'right' people cannot get you more than twenty-four hours per day.

On the Day of Judgment we shall be asked how we spent our lives, wealth and knowledge, that is, we will be questioned on how we spent everything that Allah has given us as narrated in the following Hadith:

Narrated Abdullah Bin Mas`ud Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said:

"A man shall be asked concerning five things on the day of resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning his youth, how he grew old; concerning his wealth, whence he acquired it, and in what way he spent it; and what was it that he did with the knowledge that he had."

In other Hadith The Prophet Mohammad Sallallaahu 'Alaihi Wasallam , urged Muslims to take the initiative to do good deeds before any difficulty arise. For instance, he said, "Lose no time to do good deeds before you are caught up by one of seven calamities awaiting you: a starvation which may impair your wisdom; a prosperity which may mislead you; an ailment which may damage your health; an old age which may harm your senses; a sudden death; the Dajjal (Antichrist); or Doomsday, which is indeed the hardest and most bitter." (at-Tirmidhi, al-Baihaqi) For some strange reason, the busiest people have time for anything. There is an old saying that says: "If you want something done quickly, give it to a man who is too busy to do it. He'll find time for it." The reason is that a busy person can't afford to let the tasks mount up. In fact, if you accomplish one thing at a time, all the jobs are usually taken care of. The busy man has to learn to arrange and economize his time. To him, time is too expensive a commodity to handle waste fully. Organization is certainly essential in order to use time properly.

The word 'Islam' comes from the word 'Salama' which indicates peace as it does surrender to God. When a person submits to the will of Almighty God he will undergo an innate sense of peacefulness. If a person is emotionally disturbed he or she may find their mind inattentive from the real world. Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi wasallam said that a strong believer was better than a weak believer. He was emphasizing in term of belief and personality but also pointing optimum health and fitness were desirable thus we must take care of our spiritual, emotional and physical health. Our bodies are given to us by Almighty God as a confidence and they should be maintained in good order including handling our bodies with respect, a simple diet and nourishing them with nutritious food. As diet and nutrition play a big part in keeping the best possible health so does a lifestyle including exercise. Fulfilling the duty of the daily performance of five prayers, fasting the month of Ramadhan and performing of the Haj requires that Muslims be of sound health and fitness. Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu 'Alaihi wasallam guides his followers to work, to be active and to start their day early, all of which are are prerequisite for a healthy body.

Both Hari Raya Aidil Adha dan Hari Raya Aidil Fitri would begin with mass prayer except that Hari Raya Aidil Adha typically followed with sacrifices of cows and goats then the meats would be distributed to the poor and needy. The festival is celebrated by Muslim all over the world to commemorate the readiness of Prophet Ibrahim 'Alaihisalaam to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail 'Alaihisalaam as an act of obedience to Allah. Aidil Adha falls on the 10th day of the month of Zulhijjah of the Lunar Islamic calender. The festives normally last for 3 days or more, it much depend on the country. Eid al-Adha occurs the day after the pilgrims conducting Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia by Muslims worldwide, descend from Mount Arafat. It happens to be approximately 70 days after the end of the month of Ramadan.
